FAQ

Summerhouse: (April - October)

Our guests are welcome to use the summerhouse and lawns. We have basic kitchen facilities in the summerhouse for those who prefer to stay in and cater for their own evening refreshments.

We have a sink, crockery, cutlery, a microwave and fridge. Guests are welcome to leave items in the fridge.

Laundry:

This is only for guests staying 2 days or longer: I can wash and dry up to 3 loads of washing per day. We charge £5 a load for washing and drying. We cannot do handwashing of delicate items, eg. Cashmere.

Alternatively there is a launderette in Salisbury, at the side entrance of the main post office. You can hand your washing in to be done or do-it-yourself.

Wi-Fi Internet connection:

We have wi-fi Internet connection available for those with their own laptops. It is a secure system, so you will need to get the password from us. I have some computer abilities, but cannot promise to be able to configure your laptop to my system.
Alternatively you can get internet access using our laptop - not for downloading music, films or playing games though.

Breakfast:

We have a wide variety of cereals, fruit, yogurt and orange juice to start with. We serve a full English Breakfast using our own free range eggs and local produce where available. We have continental breakfast for those who prefer something lighter. Why not try our scrambled eggs made from our duck eggs, a poached egg on toast or boiled egg with soldiers.

We serve homemade Blackcurrant Jam, Raspberry Jam and Seville Orange Marmalade with our toast. The Blackcurrants and Raspberries used in our jams is 'home grown' and pesticide free.

  • When booking, please mention special diets or allergies.

  • Breakfast served from early to 8:30 AM as by arrangement.

Local Wiltshire/Hampshire Honey for sale:

We have locally produced honey for sale. The bees can forage for 3 miles around their hive, so it will be local to both Wiltshire and Hampshire (as we are on the border).

We have a very good spring crop in 2009, unfortunately the weather changed in July so the summer crop was not as big. The good news is that all the colonies were doing well and we hope they all make it through winter. They were flying yesterday (16 January) so only a few more months to go before spring.

I leave a few jars in a honesty box, if you are coming specific to buy honey please check for availability. I have three 'types' available.

'Runny' Spring Honey

'Set' Spring Honey

Set Honey

Summer Honey 2009

  • Harvested May - June

  • Light coloured, delicate honey, with lemony taste, can be sweet to taste.
  • This honey will granulate quickly.
  • The bees were seen on Apple blosson, pear blossom, Cherry blossom, Raspberry flowers and oil rape.
  • Main (but not exclusive) flower visited will be oil rape flowers.
  • The same as the runny spring honey, but minimal heat treatment applied.

  • The honey is naturally granulated - or 'soft' set.

  • Can be 'liquified' by applying gentle heat, but honey is better in its natural form.

  • Harvested end July

  • A darker honey, less sweet than the spring honey. More flavour.
  • Will granulate slower than spring honey (that means it will stay runny for longer).
  • The bees visited: Some oil rape will still be present in this honey, but a lot less than in the spring crop. They also visited - Clover, Escallonia, wild marjoram, thyme flowers, fir tree honeydew, bramble flowers, lavender flowers.

The next crop will hopefully be harvested mid May to mid- June. It all depends on how strong the colony is, the weather, the weather and the weather.
